When You Pray in the Spirit

I pray in the Spirit every day, sometimes multiple times. Why? Because it is the surest way to get clarity on any given subject.

What does it mean to pray in the Spirit, and what happens when you do?

To pray in the Spirit means to pray:

1. In the spiritual realm with the Holy Spirit’s aid.
2. Motivated, directed, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
3. Out of one’s recreated spirit versus from one’s mind or intellect.
4. In languages given by the Spirit.

When should you pray in the Spirit?

1. Personal worship. (See 1 Cor 14:2; Jude 1:20)
2. Intercessions. (Eph 6:18) Through languages of the spirit, we can ask God to meet the needs of people anywhere in the world.
3. During times when you don’t know what to pray. When you do not know the particular definite thing to pray in a situation, pray in the Spirit. The Spirit knows the full mind and will of God. We do not. (Rom 8:26)
4. When your heart is overwhelmed, and you can’t find words to pray. The Holy Spirit will help you. He does not pray for you but takes part with you. He will take the sighs, groans, cries, and expressions of your heart and make them adequate to our Heavenly Father. (Rom 8:27)

What happens as the result of praying in the Spirit?

For your worship, praying in the Spirit can be compared to connecting jumper cables to charge a weak battery – but exponentially. You charge up your inner man. Light fills your heart, and clarity, energy, strength, and stamina come.

When you pray for others, the Holy Spirit helps you express God’s will over their lives.

Every Christ believer is a speaking place for God. The Holy Spirit helps us be more effective.
