You are unique
Unique means one of a kind, rare, uncommon.
The world population is eight (8) billion and counting.
Yet, while billions of people live and have lived on the earth, nobody is exactly like you.
No one else has your exact DNA (genetic blueprint, code, or map) or your fingerprints and footprints. God made you different from others in a way that makes you unique, rare, uncommon, and worthy of note.
Fearfully and wonderfully made
While musing on God’s excellent intricate work in creating him, King David rejoiced: “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Ps 139:14). Fearfully and wonderfully means “awesomely distinguished” – unique, one of a kind.
Today, through ultrasound imaging, we can view a fetus in the womb at different stages of development. It is truly fascinating:
- At four weeks, the baby develops the structures that eventually form his face and neck. The heart and blood vessels continue to develop. And the lungs, stomach, and liver start to develop.
- 12 weeks, the baby measures about 2 inches and starts to move. Your doctor may hear the baby’s heartbeat with special instruments. The baby’s sex organs should start to become clear.
- 16 weeks, the baby measures about 4.3 to 4.6 inches and weighs about 3.5 ounces. Its eyes can blink, and its heart and blood vessels are fully formed. The baby’s fingers and toes have fingerprints.
- 20 weeks, the baby can suck its thumb, yawn, stretch, and make faces.
So, friends, God knew what you would look like in every stage of development and the unique person you would grow up to be.
That tells me God has a plan and purpose for everyone that precedes our parent’s meeting and coupling. Therefore, the circumstances surrounding a person’s conception and birth are irrelevant.
Beloved, you are not an accident. And you are unique by God’s design.
Nobody is just like you
Think about it:
- There has never been nor will there ever be anybody exactly like you.
- God coded you with a unique genetic blueprint (DNA).
- He fashioned your inner self like no other.
- On top of that, God graced you with unique gifts and talents.
- And He gave you a one-of-a-kind set of fingerprints and footprints for you to make your mark on the earth.
Indeed, you are piece of work. You are God’s unique masterpiece!
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” ~ Eph 2:10
