Power of Two

Power of Two in Prayer
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Mt 18:19-20)
The Lord Jesus promises that if two believers agree on earth concerning anything they take to the Father in prayer, it shall be done. What a potent promise that believers anywhere in the world can lay hold to. The qualifier is that they agree.
Power of Two in Prayer: when they agree
To agree means far more than one person praying and the other saying “I agree. Amen.”
Consider Matthew 18:19. The Greek word translated agree is symphōneō (süm-fō-ne’-ō), which means to symphonize, harmonize, and be on one accord.
Consider also Acts 1:14. The disciples “continued with one accord in prayer and supplication . . . .” The Greek word translated with one accord means with one mind, with one passion.
Finally consider Philippians 2:2 which exhorts us to be like-minded, having the same love, united in spirit, with a single purpose.
When two or more believers are on one harmonious accord and unite together to pray (in faith) for some definite thing, their prayers are heard and answered. The Lord Himself ratifies the prayer!
Power of Two: Paul and Silas Praying and Praising
In Acts 16, Paul cast out a spirit of divination from a slave girl who made her masters rich by fortune-telling. Her masters became outraged, and brought Paul and Silas before the magistrates, falsely accusing them of breaking Roman law. Paul and Silas were stripped, beaten and thrown in jail.
“But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.” (Acts 16:25-26)
Paul and Silas were on one harmonious accord. Their prayer and praise shook the heavens, caused a great earthquake, shook the prison to its foundations, and broke the chains off the prisoners. Wow!
When two or more believers agree in prayer with one mind, with one accord, with one passion, in faith, they can cause the very heavens to shake, strongholds to be shattered, doors that were locked shut to open, and spiritual chains and bondages to be broken.
Have you seen the power of the prayer of agreement in your life?
