Leaders without fear of God cannot be trusted
What is the sign that government leaders can be trusted? Whether or not that person has a fear of God. Because:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction. ~Prov 1:7
Fear of God—holy respect/awe/reverence for God—is the beginning or starting point for knowledge (perception, discernment, understanding, wisdom).
Every leader should know this—especially government officials whom God entrusts as stewards over people.
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Contempt for ethical wisdom is the badge of fools.
People who show contempt for ethical wisdom are simply fools. While they brandish their high degrees and IQs, they look ridiculous when they don’t adhere to the first principle of real education – the fear of God.
Why? Because God created everything. He owns the universe. He alone is supreme.
King Solomon lost his fear of God, and calamity came.
King Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest man who ever lived, began his administration showing humility and the utmost respect for God. But he became a fool when he broke God’s laws. Consequently, after his death, his kingdom was divided. A few hundred years later, the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem, and the Jewish people went into captivity for 70 years. (1 Ki 11:19-13)
God-fearing leaders can influence a nation for good. Foolish leaders will erode the moral and spiritual fiber of society.
How do we know if leaders do not fear God?
Leaders who do not fear God show disdain for Him by their actions:
- Exercise illegitimate authority over free people. Overlords!
- Profess virtue but practice vice. Hypocrites!
- Encourage anarchy, violence, and subversion. Traitors!
- Persecute Christians. Intolerant and Hateful!
- Allow the desecration of holy things. Disrespectful!
- Side with the mob. Destructive!
Are these the kind of people you want to lead your children and their children?
Leaders who fear God
On the other hand, leaders in government who have a fear of God:
- Are transparent.
- Keep their oath of office.
- Preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
- Pursue one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.
God will punish evildoers.
God sees and knows everything. And, sooner or later, He will punish all evildoers.
I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity. I will end the arrogance of the proud and humble the insolence of tyrants. ~ Isa 13:11, CJB
God will bless those who have a fear of God.
For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. ~ Ps 103:11
Let God arise and His enemies be scattered!
