War on Women

War on women

Is there a war on women? Absolutely! Properly, it is a war on females. Subtle in some ways, extreme in others, the war on women started ages ago.

War on women from the dawn of history

The war on women was initiated by a diabolical spiritual foe at the dawn of history. In the Garden of Eden the devil used subtlety, craftiness, and lies to gain access to the soul of the first woman Eve. Why target Eve? Eve was uniquely created by God to bear and nurture children. The devil didn’t just want control of the earth’s real estate; he wanted control of the earth’s children.

God’s unique design of women

In the beginning God created humans in the likeness of His image, male and female. (Gen 1:27) The Hebrew word for female (neqebah, nek-ay-baw’) means: to hollow out, to distinguish, and to declare distinctly. Females are distinguished and hollowed out (have a womb) for the purpose of carrying and birthing children.

Female in the Greek (thēlys, thā’-lüs) means the nipple and to suckle. Babies are supposed to draw milk and nourishment from their mother’s nipple, as well as comfort and safety from her breasts. God made females uniquely to be the nurturer of children.

Hatred of women

Over the centuries the devil has worked his hatred of the female of the species into the hearts of men. It is evident today in attitudes and treatment of women all over the world. Disrespectful and demeaning jokes abound. Sexploitation movies, ridiculous demeaning reality shows, sex trafficking, genital mutilation, beating, rape, and murder of young girls and women evidence hatred of women.

One of the most heinous lies and evidences of hatred for women is abortion. In America, some people call abortion a “woman’s right to healthcare.” Healthcare! Whose health? What care? There is nothing healthy about abortion.

Abortion is not birth control. Birth control is pregnancy prevention, i.e. via abstinence from sex or through birth control pills or devices. Abortion is post pregnancy. The truth, it is the murder of an unborn baby.

Most of us learned about the birds and the bees in science class in grade school or junior high—that life begins at the point of conception, when a female egg is fertilized by a male sperm. It’s true for the animal kingdom. It’s true for humans.

Is abortion a war on women? Consider:

“On top of the fact that every abortion kills an innocent human being, abortion has also become the driving force in eliminating females around the globe. Estimates put the global gender gap somewhere between 100 and 200 million people. Abortion has become the most effective means of sexism ever devised, ridding the world of multitudes of unwanted females.” http://www.abortionfacts.com/

Abortion is in fact a big part of the war on women. The war on women in its multi-faceted dimensions is a war that hurts all humanity.

Turning the tide on the war on women

What can we do to turn the tide on the war on women?

  1. Pray. Women naturally bring forth life through childbearing. Likewise, we can birth things in the realm of the spirit through tenacious Spirit-led intercession.
  2. Prize the females in your life. Gary Smalley said, “Woman was not taken out of man’s head to be lorded over by him, nor from his feet to be trampled on by him, but from his side to be equal with him, from under his arm to be protected by him, and from his heart to be loved by him.” The late Ed Cole said that a woman was “created to be the man’s peer, the object of his love, and the joint heir with him of the life, favor and blessings of God.”
  3. Practice treating all women with respect. Honor older women as mothers, younger women as sisters.
  4. Support ministries that are making a difference. I like the anti-human trafficking ministry of Christine Caine (see http://www.a21.org/ and http://www.christinecaine.com).

Christ came to set humanity free from sin so we can have a free loving relationship with God. He came to set us free from religious, social, and political systems that keep people in bondage. He came to empower us to live with love and compassion for all.

What other things can we do to turn the tide in the real war on women?
