Wonderful Child

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year! People everywhere celebrate the Wonderful Child Born-Son Given.

About seven hundred years before Messiah’s advent, Isaiah prophesied:

Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isa. 7:14

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given. And the Government will be upon His shoulder. And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isa. 9:6 NKJV

Let’s look at a few points regarding these Scriptures.

Unto Us, a Child is Born.

Unto us – to the Jews first, then to the Gentiles – a unique child was coming forth. From Isaiah’s prophecy, we would know him by two miracles. First, a virgin would miraculously conceive and give birth to a male child. Second, they would call him Immanuel (meaning God with us).

Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied the Savior’s birthplace and his eternal roots.

As for you, Bethlehem of Ephrathah, even though you remain least among the clans of Judah, nevertheless, the one who rules in Israel for Me will emerge from you. His existence has been from antiquity, even from eternity. Mic. 5:2, ISV

Matthew’s Gospel reveals that Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled Isaiah’s and Micah’s prophecies. Matthew also confirmed the time of Jesus’s birth – “in the days of Herod the king.” And he announced the arrival of wise men from the East. They followed a bright star until it stood over the house where the young child was. (Mt. 1:23, 2:1-12)

King Herod heard that wise men had come to worship the child. He inquired of the chief priests and scribes where Christ would be born. They told him of Micah’s prophecy. (Mt. 2:2-6)

Unto Us, a Son is Given.

This wonderful child is also the Son that God gave to and for us.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jn 3:16

The Government will be Upon His Shoulder.

The child born, the Son given, had to die on the cross to make peace with God for us.

But after three days and nights, God raised Him to life again. The God-man Christ Jesus is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, with all authority in Heaven and earth.

Those who love Him look forward to His soon return as King of kings and Lord of lords! He will come to judge the nations and end oppressive human government. Jesus will reign from Jerusalem over the earth. He will rule in righteousness and justice for one thousand years.

His Name Will be Called Wonderful.

A name is a word, designation, or title by which one is known or identified. It represents all a person is, possesses, and can do.

The Name of Jesus (Yeshua) is wonderful. It is marvelous, miraculous, extraordinary, amazing, phenomenal, excellent, and magnificent. Here is why.

(1) He is excellent in wisdom, character, Word, and mighty deeds.

(2) His Name means Savior, thus deliverance, preservation, safety, soundness, healing, wholeness, completeness, eternal life, abundant life, freedom, and liberty; and

(3) His Name is exalted far above all rule, power, and authorities, and every name.

So, the Son of God became flesh and dwelt among us. He is the wonderful child born and Son given. He came to save not only the Jews, but all humanity.

Today, ordinary people wisely welcome and celebrate Him. They realize He is the true meaning of Christmas. Christ Jesus came to bring God’s light and life to everyone. Wise people gladly receive the greatest gift a person can receive.

Merry Christmas!
