Truth Encounters
By Capazin Thornton
What does God desire from us in this new season? I believe King David said it best, “You desire truth and sincerity….” (Ps 51:6, NET) Sometimes we just need to stop everything and have a truth encounter with God.
Certainly truth and truthfulness are crucial to our spiritual protection, progress, freedom, accuracy, and worship. Truth and truthfulness are essential to healthy, loving relationships.
One of my truth encounters
Truth encounters sometime happen suddenly, just when we think “me and God are ever so cool.” Like the time I had just bought a new Bible. One day while feeling adventuresome, I took my new Bible in hand and let it fall open. I figured no matter where it opened, God would speak out of its pages to my heart.
With open Bible in hand, I quickly scanned the left page and then the right. My eyes lighted on a couple of scriptures I liked. After reading them, I closed the Bible and went on my merry way. Morning devotion done.
That evening, I took my Bible in hand and let it fall open. You guessed it. My Bible fell open to the exact same page as earlier. What are the odds of that? A brand new Bible with pages stuck together so tight a rubber finger is needed to separate them.
Well nothing was settled that night because as soon as I started to read, I fell asleep. So the next morning I took my Bible in hand and . . . well, why not just let it fall open again. You guessed it. My brand new Bible fell open to the exact page as the two previous times. This obviously was no accident. It might even be considered a miracle. Certainly God got my undivided attention. We had a truth encounter. Details omitted to protect the guilty.
Truth Examination
From time to time, we all need to say to God: “Examine me, O LORD, and test me! Evaluate my inner thoughts and motives!” (Ps 26:2, NET) And, if we have missed the mark, confess it to God. He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn 1:9). Then we can move forward in truth and honesty.
Choosing Truth
Operating in truth is a choice. If we want to make spiritual progress, we must allow truth to dominate our inner man. If we want our relationships to be healthy and flourish, we must choose to be truthful and transparent.
Do you have a truth encounter you would like to share? Please do.
