Sensitive and Helpful to People in Your Path
On a scale of one to ten (with ten being the highest score), how sensitive and helpful are you to people in your path?
Recently I watched LAND, a PG-13 movie directed by and starring Robin Wright. After a heartbreaking personal tragedy, Edee (Wright) retreats from civilization to a log cabin in the magnificent but harsh Rocky Mountains.
Though she could chop wood like a lumberjack, Edee is utterly ill-prepared for life in the wild. She is isolated by choice, without a car or cell phone. The cabin is without running water, electricity, or heat. And without adequate food, clothing, and heat for the freezing winter ahead, Edee is not going to survive.
Ultimately, we see Edee lying on the cabin floor near death when a local hunter named Miguel (Demián Bichir) and his nurse friend arrive and nurse Edee back to health.
I will refrain from telling any more of the story, but let me stick a pin in this one game-changing statement. Edee asked Miguel why he had helped her. Miguel answered, “because you were in my path.”
It doesn’t get any simpler than that. Be sensitive and helpful to people in your path.
Three Ways to Be Sensitive and Helpful to People in Your Path
I know you’re busy, but being sensitive and helpful to people in your path can prove significant for you and them.
Miguel had seen the light on in the cabin when he passed by. When he didn’t see the light on his return, he went to check. Had he not done so, Edee would have died.
Here are three simple ways you can become more sensitive and helpful to people in your path.
- Pray for them.
Your heart-felt, faith-filled prayer can change lives.
A friend of mine told me that her ex-husband, for whom she has been praying for 20 years, recently received Christ as Savior. She was overjoyed.
So, don’t stop praying for people for whom you have prayed a long time. God heard you the first time. “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers . . .” (1 Pet 3:12)
One thing I have learned about God, He moves according to His timetable, not ours. I like what Isaiah wrote:
And therefore, the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore, He lifts Himself, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him! (Isa 30:18, AMPC)
Wow! And, He absolutely makes all things beautiful in His time. (Eccl 3:11)
- Check up on friends and socialize with them from time to time.
It is easy to focus only on one’s immediate family or closest friends. However, connect with people who touch your life. Get together with them. Send them a text message letting them know you appreciate them.
Miguel had challenges. But he was sensitive and helpful to people who crossed his path.
- Support righteous efforts to make the world a better place.
Help ministries and organizations that favor God’s righteous cause. Remember, “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

As you become more sensitive and helpful to people in your path, may God multiply grace, compassion, sensitivity, peace, and joy back to you.

It’s so easy to overlook those (we think) really aren’t interested in what we have to say but wait a minute that’s our thoughts not the Lords thoughts about them. Once you talk to them you will see they have been waiting for someone to help them!!
His ways are higher than ours!!
Thank you for the reminder Cap!!
