In any situation where Satan dominates and threatens, God looks for a man [or woman] through whom He may declare war on the enemy. He purposes that through this man [or woman] Satan be served notice to back up, pack up, and clear out.”[1]

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s there was a lot of emphasis on spiritual warfare prayer. Technically, spiritual warfare speaks of the realm of the war—the invisible spirit realm located between earth and heaven. This realm is occupied by an organized army of evil spirits.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in the heavenly places.—Eph 6:12

Back in the day, spiritual warfare prayer was focused, fervent, militant, and relentless. It was not unusual for corporate prayer meetings to last hours. It was not unusual to have weekend prayer shut-ins. To pray through meant we prayed until we were through.

My sense is that older people have wearied of this kind of prayer. And young people know little about it.

Hopefully, this blog will inspire you to get involved in or start a prayer group that will unashamedly praise the Lord, pray in the Spirit, and skillfully use God’s Word to destroy evil strongholds.

The war continually rages

The devil’s evil army works non-stop to try to dominate people and policies on earth. The devil’s goal is to discredit God, distort the true image of God, and generally crowd out God’s voice in the earth.

We need a breakthrough of truth, light, and the glory of God. This will come through our relentless prayers.

How to engage in militant spiritual warfare prayer

  1. Begin with praise to the Lord.
  2. Thank God and affirm the whole armor of God.
  3. Present a few key petitions and intercessions to the Father.
  4. Pray in the Spirit, declaring, decreeing, and prophesying God’s Word.
  5. Conclude with high praises and shouts of victory.

Angels hearken to the voice of God’s Word. They subdue forces of darkness in the invisible realm with the result that people in earth are blessed.

Francis Frangipane wrote:

“…as the Body of Christ on earth agrees with its Head in Heaven, the Spirit of Christ Himself displaces the powers of darkness in the heavenly places. In other words, when the church on earth is aggressive in its agreement with the will and word of God, then the Presence of God increases in the spiritual realm, proportionately displacing the influence of hell on earth.”[2]

Call to militant spiritual warfare prayer

It is time to get back in the fight and use everything in our spiritual arsenal to accomplish a positive change for individuals, states, nations, for the glory of God.

A Prayer for our Nation

Father, we will not align ourselves with the rulers of the darkness of this age. We will not align ourselves with spirits of error, critical spirits, lying spirits, spirits of hatred and fear. No, we will no longer tolerate their trying to dominate our nation. We declare Jesus is Lord over our nation.

We declare that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of grace and supplication, will be poured out over our nation. We declare that Your Word will have free course in our nation. We declare that from our nation the Word of the Lord will be sounded forth into every nation.

We declare that the holy angels of God are hearkening to the voice of Your Word and ministering on behalf of the heirs of salvation in our nation. We call these heirs out of darkness into light. We say to the North, South, East and West, Give them up.

We say let the Lord arise and His glory be seen upon our nation. We call to the gentiles and say: Come to our light. We say kings come to the brightness of our rising.

Thank You, for the sons coming from afar. Thank You for daughters who shall be nursed at our side. Thank You that the abundance of the sea shall be turned to us and the wealth of the nations shall come to us, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
