Let the Mind of Christ Be in You
By Capazin Thornton
Contrary to what many may think, the mind of Christ is not an intellectual mind. The mind of Christ speaks of character and attitudes of the heart.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men, and being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” ~ Philippians 2:5-8
The Mind of Christ
Christ demonstrated His heart attitudes in several ways:
- He willingly divested Himself of all His rights, privileges and glory as God to become human.
- Everything He did was in submission to the Father’s will. (John 5:30)
- His only self-description: “I am gentle and humble in heart.” (Mt 11:29)
What kind of God would leave the splendor and glory of Heaven to come to earth to suffer and die on the cross for the sins of the world? Christ the Lord, our Savior.
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” ~ Isa 53:5
Let This Mind Be in You
Phillips says, “Let Christ Jesus be your example as to what your attitude should be.”
To walk in humility means to have a gentle, kind, humble attitude. It means to not think more highly of ourselves than we should. After all, it is God who created us. It is God who saved us.
“God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” ~Gal 6:14
And it is God’s ongoing grace that supplies, protects, and preserves us.
“Our sufficiency is of God, not of ourselves.” ~2 Cor 3:5
As gifted, smart, creative, and talented as we may be, our mantra should simply be, “I am what I am by the grace of God.” (1 Cor 15:10) And we should keep in mind that God resists the proud but gives more grace to the humble. (Jas 4:6)
Let the mind of Christ be in every believer. Christ is our life, grace, peace, joy, and praise. “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” (Heb 13:15)
