Ways to Keep a Tender Heart
Let God’s Word work on you every day
“Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” —Jer 23:29
The Word will scrutinize, judge and critique the very thoughts and intents of our hearts. (Heb 4:12-13) Meditate in the Word. Let the Word shape and change your thinking and your ways.
Never critically judge anyone
God is the judge of the living and the dead. We should leave judging people to Him. Our job is to pray for people everywhere.
Pray for people
It is virtually impossible to talk bad about someone you are praying for. Go before God on behalf of others to bridge the gap between the ungodly events in their lives and the spiritually desired as revealed in God’s Word.
Be kind
Kindness is an attribute of God. It is goodness in action. A kind person is gentle, tender-hearted, compassionate, courteous, and considerate.
The opposite of kind is harsh, bitter, rude, crude, commanding, controlling, and hard to deal with. There are lots of people like this in the world. What many need is to be recipients of kindness.
Kindness is a fruit of the recreated human spirit. Thus, if you are in Christ, kindness should flow out from your heart to others.
Show kindness by forgiving people. Whether a wrong done to us or a debt owed to us, simply let it go. Let go of hurt feelings. Let go of any offence. Release the offender.
Express kindness with:
1. a smile
2. a kind word
3. a listening ear
4. a kind touch
5. a note of encouragement
6. reaching out
7. gracious acts to help alleviate someone’s overload
Kindness always loves, forgives, affirms, and shares.
