How to Pray Confidently
People often ask me to pray for them, which I am honored to do. However, recently it occurred to me that sometimes people don’t pray for themselves because they:
- do not know their rights and privileges in Christ
- think God hears some believers more than others
- have a sense of unworthiness
- lack confidence
Any believer can make a quantum leap over prayer roadblocks like these. We can all learn how to pray confidently. Here are a few steps to take.
First, Realize Your New Birth Right
Over the years I taught and wrote books on prayer. My heart’s desire was to help believers develop an intimate prayer life and pray confidently. In one book I wrote an entire chapter on the definition of prayer.
Today, I try to keep it simple. So, here in one sentence is an absolutely life-changing truth:
If you are a believer, your new birth right is God’s ear and His favor!
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers… (1 Pet 3:12)
Second, Believe You are Righteous
You are righteous because God said so.
God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Cor 5:21, MEV)
The moment you received Christ into your heart, God imputed Christ’s righteousness to you and declared you righteous. You have right-standing with God. You are as righteous today as you will ever be. And you are as righteous as any other believer.
Third, Accept God’s Invitation
God invites every believer to approach Him boldly, that is, with all outspokenness, frankness, bluntness, assurance, and confidence.
Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb 4:16)
Multiply Grace and Pray Confidently
2 Peter 1:2 reveals you can multiply or increase grace and peace through fuller intimate knowledge of the Lord.
In other words, through intimately knowing the Lord, you can multiply or increase the manifestation of grace and peace in your life. This means you can pray with ever growing confidence, boldness, and faith.
Therefore, grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And, by all means, pray confidently.
