How to Change Lives Through Words
Did you know that you can change lives through words?
Unlike animals who produce inarticulate sounds, humans are gifted with articulate speech. We can express our highest thoughts, feelings, and intelligence in lovely words. If only we would.
If only we would be as concerned about the social climate as we are about the physical environment. Unedifying, mean-spirited, and foul words pollute the atmosphere and help no one. It’s time to upgrade our communication with others.
Words are Powerful
Words are way more powerful than most people know. They are agents of authority that release either good or evil, life or death, blessing or cursing. (Prov 18:21).
Nothing can cause more damage to your life or that of another person than words wrongly spoken. Negative comments that were said by us, to us, and over our lives can bind us up with hostile forces that wind up controlling our lives.
A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it. By our speech, we can ruin the world, turn harmony into chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell (Jas 3:5-6, Msg).
On the other hand, nothing is more refreshing and transforming than positive life-impacting words spoken at the right time. “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” (Prov 15:23).
You cannot control what other people say. However, you can control what you say.
So, let’s change lives through words—life-enhancing words. Here’s how.
3 Ways to Change Lives Through Words
-
Speak positive words.
Positive words will create an atmosphere of peace and harmony. They will spark creative energy and ideas and promote health, healing, and unity.
-
Be an Encourager.
To encourage is to inspire and strengthen with courage, spirit, hope, or confidence.
Your encouraging words can boost morale, give people hope, inspire them to take the next step to improve their lives, even restore their confidence and sense of self-worth.
So, make that encouraging phone call. Send an uplifting email or text message. You can change lives through words and help turn someone’s ordinary day into extraordinary.
-
Choose the choicest words.
The choicest Words are God’s. His words are spirit and life. (John 6:63) They have inherent power to deliver, regenerate, heal, restore, purify, nourish, strengthen, and encourage. We can most positively change lives through words like these!
