Casting a New Vision
By Capazin Thornton
How about getting a jumpstart on the New Year by casting a new vision now?
Proverbs 29:18 reveals that without the presentation of clear, prophetic vision, people cast off restraint, run wild, and let it all hang out. We see the results of lack of national vision played out in the news every day.
Yet, I believe we are living in times of great opportunity. It is time to cast a new vision for your life, family, ministry, work, business.
Casting a New Vision—write it down
According to Habakkuk 2:3, a vision should:
- Be written;
- Be clear; and
- Motivate the ones who read it.
Chinese philosopher said, “Pale ink better than most retentive memory.” Don’t just think about your vision. Write it down. Not just for the coming year, but for the next several years.
Casting a New Vision—some sample goals
PERSONAL GOALS: I write down personal goals in three categories: Spiritual, Health, and Financial.
Spiritual Goals
In the Spiritual category I have three columns: Daily, Weekly, and Bi-Weekly.
Daily I am shooting for 2 hours prayer, 30 minutes scripture reading, and 2 hours Bible study. Weekly, my goal is to write one sermon and/or blog. Bi-weekly: read one good book.
I’m also praying about new areas of ministry, divine connections, and joint ventures.
Health Goals
I write down the best food choices, diet, and exercise for me to be healthy and function at optimum. (I just took Breyer’s Cherry Vanilla ice cream off the list.) Also, while I walk most days, one of my health goals is to jog again on a regular basis.
Financial Goals
Be debt free; give 20%; save 10%.
FAMILY GOALS: Take a two-week vacation each year to spend with family.
Casting a New Vision—commit to change
Let each of us commit to change—to be the change we want to see. If we really are ambassadors for Christ, let us represent Him in everything we think, say and do.
Casting a New Vision— work the change
Depend on the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom, strength, and guidance to work the change.
