Blessed to be a Blessing
by Capazin Thornton
Years ago my son and I visited a church in Denver close to where we used to live. That day, while listening to the visiting evangelist’s testimony, I felt impressed to bless him and his ministry team.
After the service I went up to the evangelist and offered to pay his team’s hotel bills for the day. An extenuating circumstance was that this man’s wife was in Denver in the hospital, having just given birth to their fifth child. In the end, I used my credit card to pay for the ministry team’s rooms for several additional days.
Later when I thought about how large my credit card bill was going to be, I had a momentary panic attack. After that, I had a great sense of peace that everything was going to be alright.
Back in California I had a marvelous dream. As I lay in bed, the heavens were open, and across the bright blue sky a ticker tape message said: “[Credit Card Company], she was in Denver on My business.” Then, a heavenly host looking over banisters at me began to cheer and applaud.
This dream was really encouraging to me and a reminder that:
- God is the ultimate choreographer. God will lead us by His Spirit so that we are in the right place, at the right time, to connect with the right people, to accomplish his purpose. While it may seem my son and I just spontaneously decided to visit this church, it is clear that the whole thing was divinely orchestrated.
- God is our provider. Where God guides, He provides. For this traveling evangelist, I became God’s provision, a ram in the bush, if you will (Gen 22:13) to help him and his team. I experienced the joy of giving as well as God’s provision when I was able pay my credit card bill on time.
- We are blessed to be a blessing. All that we have, all that we are, all we can do is because of the grace of God.
- God is watching our obedience. You may never have a dream with handwriting across the sky and angels clapping because you obey God. But God sees every deed of faithfulness. He who looks on the heart will reward in His time.
God gave us two hands. One hand gives, the other hand receives . . . to give again.
