8 Ways to Bring Nice Back

It’s time to bring nice back—at home, in the work place—everywhere. To be nice is to be sweet, agreeable, delightful, kind, polite, and friendly.

When was the last time you read or heard something nice? I say it’s time to replace the unpleasant, unkind, careless, crass and improper with nice and sweet!

8 Ways to Bring Nice Back

  1. Say, “Thank you.”

When someone is kind to you, say “thank you.” When you request something from someone, end with “thank you.”

  1. Say, “Excuse me.”

If you walk in front of someone, say “excuse me.” If you interrupt another person while he or she is speaking, say “excuse me.” If you accidentally sneeze in someone’s face, say “excuse me.”

  1. Be an encourager.

To encourage means to give support, confidence or hope (to someone). Your encouraging words can boost people’s morale, inspire them to take the next step to improve their lives, even restore their confidence and sense of self worth.

Don’t second guess yourself. Make that encouraging phone call. Send an encouraging email or text message. It can change someone’s ordinary day into extraordinary.

  1. Develop a spirit of cooperation.

To cooperate means to work or act together with another for the same end or benefit. If you’re a family, you’re a team. If you’re a firm, you’re a team. Don’t work against your team. Co-operate!

  1. Say nice things about people.

Don’t talk wrong about people. Say something nice.

  1. Build bridges.

Build bridges – things that positively connect people, ideas, causes, purpose.

  1. Pursue Peace.

Peace means harmony. Negative debate, conflict, hostility, strife, fighting, and hatred work against peace. As much as you can, be a peacemaker.

  1. Respect your employer.

You are a guest in your employer’s house. While in his house, follow his rules. Do the work he’s paying you to do. Don’t take his stuff home with you. And, be nice to everybody else in the house.
