How to Develop a Winning Team Spirit

winning team

At home, work, or play, having a winning team spirit is essential. While there are many components to a winning team, here are four basic concepts that will keep the group together and on the road to success.

Treat each winning team member with respect

Respect is about value. We respect what we value. When we value others, we will never treat them as less than deserving of the respect and dignity that we desire.

A winning team is likely made up of people of different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. The key is to consider each one valuable and essential to the team. And to show respect for everyone, from the highest in authority to the least.

Encourage team members to use their unique talents

On the way to becoming a team that operates like a well-oiled machine, team members may perform tasks that are not in their wheelhouse. The ultimate goal, however, should be to allow and encourage each individual to use, develop, and excel in their area of expertise.

People become dynamic when they become specific. When members are allowed to do what they do best, everyone benefits. The team is enhanced and strengthened. The individual members are elated.

Act with a winning team attitude

A winning team’s attitude is positive. Like: United, we stand. Divided, we fall. All for one. One for all.

So, while it is vital to assess weaknesses, a winning team will focus on the positive. In this regard, giving credit where credit is due goes a long way to lift spirits and ignite enthusiasm and a sense of excellence among all.

Merge together in one vision

For over 10 years I was a member of the trial team at a notable law firm. I also worked for many years in church leadership. I learned the importance of laying hold to and supporting the leader’s vision in word and deed.

It is when we merge together in one vision with whatever team we are a part of that successful outcomes occur. Teamwork truly makes the dream work.
