Consistency Makes Real Winners Shine
By Capazin Thornton
While persistence is important, consistency is more important. Consistency means always having good character, attitudes, and standards.
For instance, we know athletes who have persisted at the gym and beyond to develop Herculean bodies and incredible physical skills. Yet, their attitudes and behavior are inconsistent with their status.
And, while persistence can come in spurts, being positively consistent can be developed to carry one through a lifetime.
I am reminded of the prophet Daniel, who lived over 90 years. He is a perfect example of a life of consistency.
Seven features of consistent people
Daniel was excellent in many ways. I have chosen seven of his outstanding features. These will help anyone build a life of consistency.
- Purpose in the heart not to defile oneself.
As a teenager, Daniel purposed not to defile himself.
- Self-Control.
He followed through on his resolve by abstaining from anything that would defile him.
- Prayer.
Daniel prayed several times a day, every day. As a result, he developed a stable and consistent spirit.
- Humility.
Humility underscores consistency. God gave Daniel dreams, interpretation of dreams, wisdom, and revelation. Daniel took no credit for any of it. He gave God all the glory, all the time.
- Excellent spirit.
Everything Daniel did was excellent because he was excellent. He was not perfect, but there was no error or fault found in him.
- Courageous.
Daniel did not cave to threats. He refused to bow to the king’s image or stop praying when commanded. Daniel met every threat with great faith. He knew that God is on the side of the uncompromisingly righteous.
- Faithful.
For 60 years, Daniel served under at least four kings. During all that time, he stayed faithful to God. He faithfully served each administration. The angel Gabriel called Daniel a man “greatly beloved.” What a legacy!
Control your soul through consistency
Lk 21:19 says, “In your consistency, control your soul.”
In your consistency, control your mind, will, emotions, appetites, desires.
Let your spirit rule.
Consistency makes real winners shine
As Christ believers, we should make every effort to be consistent in character, attitudes, and standards. In the way we treat people.
There is no change in God’s character – ever! We should thus conduct ourselves in line with the reality of the inner man created in God’s image. And given the abundant blessings, resources, and privileges we have in Christ.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us live our lives consistent with our confession of faith. Heb 4:14, ISV
Finally, let the peace of God rule your heart. Go out with joy. Be led forth with peace and positive consistency.

Janice, thank you for reading and responding to my blog. I know you have a good sense of God’s timing, so I appreciate your comments. Love you.
Good stuff!
Thank you. I have believed that the greatest way to overcome persecution is by being consistent. I tell myself that. Just be consistent. Walk, aim purposefully. Daniel is a great example. The wisdom to desire consistency is of God, but the grace to fulfill it is also of God.
Absolutely, Melita. Our sufficiency is of God and our ability to endure and be consistent is by His grace. Thank you.
