7 Ways to Stay in Balance
By Capazin Thornton
How do you stay in balance in a chaotic world? Here are 7 ways to stay in balance for optimum spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health.
In the Hebrew “balance” speaks of “a pair of scales.” To get the scales to balance likely will require adding some things and subtracting other things.
If your checking account, for instance, has more withdrawals than deposits, you wind up with a deficit. In order to get the account back in balance, you have to deposit some more money.
Like a checking account, we can sometimes get out of balance. Here are 7 ways to get back into and stay in balance.
B – Build up your spirit (Jude 20). Pray or sing in the Holy Spirit until peace rules in your inner man. When peace rules, you can hear God speaking to your heart. There is nothing like the voice of God to give you the right perspective and help you find and stay in balance.
A – Adopt a positive attitude. Cast down ungodly thoughts. Think only on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Renew your mind everyday on God’s Word. (2 Cor 10:5; Phil 4:8; Rom 12:2) Look for and see the best in everyone. As Bing Crosby put it, “You’ve got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative, and don’t mess with Mr. In-Between.”
L – Learn to say “no.” Don’t let other people drive you. Don’t feel you have to do everything others ask you to do. Set limits. At work, let your employer know that you will do the very best job you can, but you are unable to handle a workload that was meant for three or more people.
A – Acknowledge your uniqueness. There never has been, nor will there be, anybody like you. God went to great lengths to make you unique. (Ps 139:14) Therefore, don’t spend one minute imitating or wishing you were someone else. Work on discovering, developing and using your unique gifts and talents to bless others.
N – Nourish your body. Eat a nutrient rich and balanced diet, which includes proteins, good carbohydrates and good fats, to nourish and fuel your body. Drink plenty of water. Get plenty of rest.
C – Celebrate life. Someone said, “Life is about moments.” Celebrate, be thankful for, and make the most of every moment. The days and years will take care of themselves.
E – Exercise. Your body is your “earth-suit,” a gift from God to transport the real you (spirit and soul) through life on earth. Stretch, train, and condition your body as much as you can so that you will be strong, healthy and energized to fulfill your destiny.
