goodness of God

Recently I heard a minister discussing why bad things happen to good people. He said, “It rains on the just and on the unjust.” I thought, “h-m-m-m.” I looked up the scripture, which says:

“that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Mt 5:43-45 (NKJV)

This scripture is not about bad things happening to good people. It speaks of the fact that good people and bad people alike benefit from the goodness of God.

The Goodness of God

King David declared, “The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Ps 145:9

Moses discovered “the LORD God is merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth.” Ex 34:6

The apostle Paul wrote that the goodness of God leads people to repent. Rom 2:4

Lately I have been reflecting on the goodness of God in my life. From a child to this day, God has been good to me! I have been young and am getting older, and I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his descendants begging bread. Ps 37:25

I am confident that God’s eternal goodness supersedes all the bad happening in the world.

It shall be well with the righteous

Isaiah wrote, “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.” Isa 3:10

Finally, “. . . know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Rom 8:28
