Outpouring of Holy Spirit

Now, more than ever, we need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In that regard, I would like to stick a pin in one point that is crucial if we are going to experience a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Restoration and an
outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Joel (“Yahweh is God”) prophesied to Judah after a time of great devastation. Armies of locusts coming in four different waves from the north had eaten up vegetation, vineyards, and even the bark of trees. People and animals were dropping dead from famine and drought. (Joel 1:1-12)

Joel declared to Judah that this was God’s judgment. Yet things could turn around if God’s people would repent, return to the Lord, fast and pray. God promised restoration and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.”—Joel 2:28

Today, we are privileged to have the New Testament Scriptures, whereby we know that this prophecy of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all flesh spoken of hundreds of years earlier by Joel began to be fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost A.D. 29. (See Peter’s Sermon, Acts 2:14-21.)

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost marked the inauguration of the Spirit-filled and empowered church of the living God. It also marked the beginning of the last days.

However, let’s step back a moment to the point the Holy Spirit wants to make regarding Joel’s prophecy to Judah. An important truth is found in the word “afterward.” God says after you:

1: 5 – awake

1:13—pray all night

1:14—fast

2:12—repent

2:13—rend your heart

2:17—minister to the Lord; and

2:17—pray for Israel and the church

Then, restoration of the land and a fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit will come.
